Monitoring of Core Fiber Networks by Using Deep Learning Based Estimation

The global fiber-optic network is one of the most important infrastructures of modern information society. Today, optical switching technology, which switches route of path without electric routers and switches, is widely used in the optical networks to save the power consumption of the network equipment. However, there would be an issue on an economic realization of monitoring the actual states of optical medium (optical fiber and components) especially on long-haul light path which includes multiple optical nodes. In this study, in order to realize more economic monitoring, we propose and demonstrate the novel method of physical layer monitoring based on deep learning with coherent optical transceivers at network edge. We are developing a prototype of monitoring system by using deep neural learning and digital coherent optical transceiver.
